Can anyone tell me why some dogs get fly strike on their ears, while others right beside them are not bothered? And, does anyone know of a supplement, food choice, or anything else that can stop it?
The biting flies love Price's ear, and I have to keep Swat on him all summer, which he hates. In the summer time, it's the reason why his face is dirty in all my pictures of him. But they don't bother the other dogs at all.
Edited to add; I keep my kennels and dog yard picked up and clean, and use Fly Predators.
Cheers all and thanks _________________ Amelia Smith

They seem to bother my older dogs more than younger ones. I've watched this for several years and dogs that were OK one year are bothered by biting flies several years later, when they are 4-5 years old. Pups in the same area are not bothered.
I use the horse roll on product "Endure", which gives about 2 days protection, and have had success on the old dogs with a "Defy the Fly" collar. I also keep the yard clean and used the fly predators one year, but I think I had too much sheep poop nearby for the fly predators to keep up. _________________ mwbowsher

Someone I knew had a pair of Anatolian brothers. One was always having horrible issues with the flies biting his ears and the other was never bothered. It makes you wonder about people who get bit by misquitoes when no one else is being bit and so forth - are some more susceptible or appealing to biting insects than others? _________________ Sue |
