Who I am I am the hill. In daylight and dark. In blazing sunshine and driving rain. I am the wind. Hot and dry, sucking moisture from your very bones. Cool and soft with the taste of the sea. I am the power. The fire of my soul reaches from my eyes and the pagan god Pan trembles in my sight. I am the grass of the fens, and the dust of the desert. I am the soul of the land, the bounty of the earth, and I share my life with you. I run and I find. I crouch and I move. I stand and I intimidate. The very soul of living creatures gives way to my thoughts. I am the shepherd’s dog, I am the companion of the pasture, I am the free one who walks the path between the worlds of man and his servant, being neither, touching both. I am your dog and I deserve your trust, for I am your soul made manifest, I am your heart. As I lay at rest, my limbs tremble with my purpose – and I am born anew, each day, in oneness with my world. I am the shepherd’s dog, make me no less, for you and I are brothers, and brothers walk their path together. I am the shepherd’s dog, and the breath of the past belongs in my soul. I am the shepherd’s dog, and my path is the path of the earth. I am the shepherd’s dog, and my way is not yet done, for you have not yet learned the lessons I am here to teach. I am the shepherd’s dog, and I shall not pass, until you do. I am the shepherd’s dog. And we are one, together. This was inspired by Jaff, 8 days old, son of Roy, out of Beth, as I held him and felt his heartbeat. Bill Gary - October 2003 ã Bill Gary 2003
